Description

Australias military chief, Admiral David Johnston, has pledged to respect the rights of personnel involved in a major class action lawsuit alleging widespread sexual abuse and harassment within the Australian Defence Force. Over a thousand women have registered for this action against the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is attempting to exclude overseas incidents from the lawsuit, but Veterans Affairs Minister Matt Keogh has affirmed that sexual misconduct is unacceptable regardless of location. The first hearing for the class action took place in Sydney, and a separate inquiry into military sexual violence is expected to begin in mid-2026.
