Description

jason-isbell-the-400-unitBy now you’ve seen the Jason Isbell Austin City Limits episode which shared a co-billing with Neko Case. If not, watch here.

Let’s journey back to a less edited time when Isbell & The 400 Unit played a CD release show at Birmingham, Alabama’s WorkPlay Theater for their 2009 self-titled album.

As if foreshadowing later troubles that would result in 2013’s Southeastern, Jason and the band tackled what for my money is the best rock and roll song ever recorded: “Sway” by The Rolling Stones. Throw in Tom Petty’s “American Girl” for good measure amidst new songs, tracks from his first solo album and a steady dose of Drive-By Truckers contributions and you have a rambling outing that lasted more than two hours.
