CD 1538 New Wine: From “No Wine” to "New Wine" - From "Zero" to "Overflow"
New wine! It represents the Holy Spirit, harvest, joy, intimacy with God, and miracles. New wine also speaks of the “now” move of the Holy Spirit. And if you are thirsty for God, or experiencing a shortfall, this word will encourage you. For in an instant of listening and responding to Jesus, He can take you from zero to overflow!
And you will see God’s power in unexpected places.
From “No Wine” to New Wine - "New Wine, you are His Glorious Vessel"!
*TEXT John 2:1-11 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. 11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
In John chapter 2, the glory of God gate-crashes a wedding in Cana, Galilee. Yet, few of those attending was aware of it! But what they do know is that the wine they taste is of higher quality than any they have experienced before! The miracle takes place after Mary informs Jesus, “They have no wine”. And this is a reminder, that supply issues—whenever they show up—are an opportunity to encounter Jesus.
The New Wine is Now
When the master of ceremonies tastes the miracle wine, he calls the bridegroom over.
It is a new wine, the glory of God on display. And it has never been tasted in the earthly realm before. Jesus is the baptizer in the Holy Spirit with fire and new wine (Matthew 3:11 )!
Because God’s word tells us that we are also vessels for His glory.
Paul writes, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” (2 Cor 4:7, NKJV)
1. Closeness
John recalls, “Standing nearby were six water jars”.
So, the jars were nearby and close at hand! Are you staying close to Jesus the baptizer?
This reminds me of when the ruling priests arrest Peter and John. The rulers are astonished to realize that Peter and John are “unschooled, ordinary men”!
And “they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:13 )
Likewise, closeness will mark you with the presence of God. The grandkids will leave our house and when they get home mom tells them they smell like nana and papa's! Lord, I want EVERYONE to smell Your presence on me!
It is personal but also relates to church gatherings. And church gatherings are not just in a building! Because Jesus said, “When two or more gather there I am in the midst of them.” (Matt 18:20 ) We have been having ZOOM meetings and the Lord is in those meetings just like a church building! Right now, you are in the place of closeness. Hear the Lord say, “I love you! I choose you!”
It is a new era and God is pouring His new wine forth through you.
