Calls for Leitrim County Council to use CPO's on derelict sites
Update: 2025-11-10
Description
A Leitrim Councillor has expressed his surprise with statistics on dereliction that confirmed that Leitrim has not use Compulsory Purchase Orders to secure the ownership of derelict buildings in towns and villages.
Manorhamilton Councillor, Felim Gurn says dereliction is a blight on many town and villages in the County of Leitrim.
He has called for such buildings to be identified by the Regeneration Office team and Town Teams and progress to them through CPO, if the owners are not willing to engage with the Local Authority.
The Independent Councillor says Funding could then be secured to bring them back into use as accommodation in the middle of a housing crisis.
