Description

This episode contains strong language.

The sound of victory was loud. It was banging pots, honking horns and popping corks as supporters of President-elect Joe Biden celebrated his win.

But loss, too, has a sound. In the days after the U.S. election result was announced, some of the 71 million-plus Americans who backed President Trump are grieving.

Can the country overcome its differences? In discussions with voters in areas both red and blue, we traced the fault lines of the country’s deep rifts.

Guest: Astead W. Herndon, a Times national political reporter, spoke with voters in Mason County, Texas. Robert Jimison, Jessica Cheung and Andy Mills, producers of “The Daily,” and Alix Spiegel, an editor, also reported from across the country.

it's the difference between people who live as victims and those who know everything comes from within

Lauren? Are you sure her name isn't Karen? Save us all some time and don't interview Karens that think others are the ignorant ones because Trump told them so.

I have xome to believe these Teump supporters are the most frightening people whom no one can trust. Their gullibility and willfull ignorance is staggering. Do they know NOTHING of Manafort? Why Trump was impeached? Do they n9t understand the basic principles of right and wrong or must one only trust Newt, FOX and everyone who looks 'right '? The most dangerous people are ignorant.

I've been puzzling over my country persons' dearth of a "bullshit meter" when judging Donald Trump. I imagined what it would be like if in his place stood Mit Romney, a republican with integrity(def:incorruptibility;soundness). I venture a guess that we would not be in this hateful, depressing, and angry state. I imagined a fair fight between Joe and Mit in which real ideas and truths were argued and I could rationally decide between the two points of view. I am not die hard anything. IS it wrong to think that a man of high standards is somehow threatening to people? Maybe because they cant live up to higher standards in themselves? that "cheating" is necessary to survival for so many people? THat doing things "right" is a high falutin' idea?

Its even more and more apparent how divided we are now. Hateful and negative rhetoric has really ingrained into people's minds that now is a sigh of relief that it may change. Its going to be a while until people can dissassocoiate a presidential candidate from religion. Historically, cultural societies built on certain beliefs will never change until they open themselves to possibilities other than what they believe within their own environment. The realities certain people live in are built by a certain few that lead a community to believe certain things. That said community will build friends and a family etc. Then comes a different reality and the threat of what they have built will shatter completely if they start to believe something other than the community. That you will lose everything you've built if you believe something else. Its high time we change that notion in this century of human growth. We should educate ourselves about the world at large and believe in unifying one reality as we learn even more about our shared global reality, if that makes sense. Sadly though, we can't do that when there are powers that be, picking away honesty and promoting propoganda we see every day. The key is to stand your ground and do research, be open minded, see both sides and most of all, the world doesn't revolve around you or one person. It is our life long mission to keep hoping we make it through the next day as humans in this accidental planet that created life. Be kind and be thoughtful of others besides yourself.

Why don't you guys challenge Lauren and ask her what she basis her opinion on the election being rigged? You let her blab on without her having to say anything based on facts. You are journalists, I don't understand how you let an empty discourse go uncontested.

The level of cognitive dissonance of these Trump supporters is really beyond anything in this world .... in what reality do these people live 🤯 and the dangerous thing is that agent orange will keep using this for his own profit.
