Notice that McDonald never states in detail exactly what McGinness "lied" about in the book.
Janet had something to prove about herself coming into her role on this case. I feel that regardless of how Joe acted in their interview, she would've taken the same view. He acts like the subject, he's defensive and obviously guilty. He acts like a journalist, he's hiding something and obviously guilty.
