Charlie Kirk Memorial at Capitol and Teachers Face Fallout From Social Media Comments

A caravan of supporters filed from Rocklin to the state capitol this morning for a vigil for Charlie Kirk. The conservative commentator was killed while speaking at an event on a college campus in Utah last month. CapRadio Communities Reporter Tony Rodriguez attended the vigil and join us with an update. Also, CalMatters K-12 Education Reporter Carolyn Jones talks about how the fallout from Kirk’s death is impacting California schools, where at least 20 teachers have been disciplined or fired for comments made over the assassination.

CalMatters is a nonprofit newsroom that partners with public media stations across the state.

California Wine Industry Concerns

It’s crush time for California wine country and this year’s harvest is shaping up to be a good one, even if sales remain sluggish. Though wine has become an economic driver for many regions across the state, the industry continues to face a variety of issues that are leading to declining revenues. Insight’s resident wine expert Rick Kushman joins us today to uncork all of these issues.

California Writers’ Club Turns 100

A longtime institution in the local literary community is turning 100 years old. The Sacramento Branch of the California Writers Club dates back to 1925. This weekend, the group is marking their anniversary with a Centennial Gala at North Ridge Country Club in Fair Oaks. Sandra Navarro is the President of the Sacramento Branch of the California Writers Club and she joins us today, along with the gala’s keynote speaker, Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Jack Ohman.

The gala will also include local author Kiyo Sato as one of the guest stars. Kiyo spoke with StoryCorps in Sacramento in 2015, and with then-Insight Host Jeffrey Callison in 2008. You can find that conversation here.
