Their star quarterback, Daniel Jones, was playing with a broken fibula and a torn Achilles tendon, leading to his injury. Backup Riley Leonard also sustained a knee injury, leaving the team with only Brett Rypien as a healthy quarterback. In a surprising move, the Colts signed forty-four-year-old Philip Rivers to the practice squad and then to the active roster.
