So 1979, you hack your way onto the ARPANET and MIT.

You're exactly who my father was complaining about.

The computer freaks my dad warned us about and season one are still hacking away, and I have been on a quest to find out what they're up to next.

So this season, we are traveling to the 1990s and following the money trail from shopping online to IPOs to the massive influx of investment into tech startups.

And so I was sitting there and figuring out how these companies are going to interact with each other.

And the model was basically a form of e-commerce.

It was only a small problem, which was still technically illegal, but I was never either a rule follower or a rational businessman.

I used to say, yeah, the internet is immoral and legal and fat.

So that's what you said at the time?

Yeah, that's what I said at the time.

That's why we would get kicked out of people's offices.

Not to mention, we get road reactions to people who are like, what is this internet stuff in a stupid I've never heard of it?

Of course, some people had heard of it.

I'm a very modest person, but I will say that we taught the world e-commerce, as you know, including Jeff Bezos.

In this season, the internet is taking off at light speed compared to the early days of the ARPANET.

It got to the point where the counter for the number of downloads was spinning so fast that you really didn't see the numbers anymore.

But this time, the computer freaks had a new motivation beyond a love of technology.

The one question I remember him asking me was, you think there's money in this?

And I said, oh, yes, there's money in this.

Now that there's money, things get really ugly.

Throwing around words, like stock auctions and equity.

No, no, no, I didn't understand anything about this world.

They wrote me out.

It's fine for them to take credit for the things that they did, but don't take away the work that we did.

I punched the hole in the wall.

I mean, it wasn't bad.

He literally put his hands around my throat.

We are going to explore all of the twists and turns that the internet took in the 1990s.
