Coney Island Boardwalk Gets $1B Makeover
Update: 2025-12-09
Description
Coney Islands iconic Riegelmann Boardwalk is set for a $1 billion makeover, aiming to revitalize the nearly three-mile-long landmark. The project, a collaboration between the Parks Department and Economic Development Corporation, will reconstruct the boardwalk, replace utilities, reinforce structural piles, and elevate sections. The plan also includes improving access points, adding ramps and plazas, and renovating adjacent buildings. The Mayors Office of Management and Budget has earmarked funds for the project, which will continue through 2032. While construction is years away, community input sessions are expected to start in about two years.
