TRUE AND FALSE IDENTITIES

We were created by God to be His image bearers to the world around us.

Our purpose, value, and worth came from our union with the Creator and joining in His mission.

In the fall, humanity rejected the good rule and reign of God, and now spends their life searching for identity, purpose, and worth in false gods and fellow humans.

We are broken, longing to again be fully known and fully loved.

RESTORATION IN JESUS

A NEW IDENTITY | JEFF VANDERSTELT
www.saturatetheworld.com

In Christ, we are made a new creation.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:17

Our true identity is restored in the gospel, and we are fully and completely accepted because of the work of Christ.

We do not earn this and we cannot lose this. It is who we are.

We are given a new Trinitarian Identity based in the work and call of Jesus. That is why we are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Spirit.

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus reclaims the authority from the Father and calls us to our new identity: disciple of Jesus. Who we are (our being) precedes what we do (our doing).

And everything God has done to us, He desires to do through us.

We are called to go make disciples in the world around us, recognizing the depravity of man, but also the imago Dei of God's creation, calling them back to what they were originally created to be.

FAMILY

In Jesus, we are made sons and daughters to God the Father. We are fully accepted. We have the smile of God.

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God
John 1:12-13

WHO IS GOD?
God is our Father.

WHAT HAS HE DONE?
He has substituted His Son for us and welcomed us into His family.

WHO ARE WE?
We are beloved sons and daughters of God. We receive the inheritance of sonship. We are also brothers and sisters of one another.

WHAT DO WE DO?
Love one another as family.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

SERVANT

Jesus came as King, not to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many.
