Covid and Christ’s Coming
Sermon Three
II Thessalonians 1:1-12 NLT
This letter is from Paul, Silas, and Timothy.
We are writing to the church in Thessalonica, to you who belong to God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. 3 Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing. 4 We proudly tell God’s other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering. 5 And God will use this persecution to show his justice and to make you worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering. 6 In his justice he will pay back those who persecute you.
7 And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power. 10 When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people—praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about him. 11 So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. 12 Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Philippians 4:6-7 NLT
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Luke 18:8b
“When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”
Galatians 6:9 NLT
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
We are in a strange sort of time. We are all feeling our way through this. Most of us are recreating our jobs, our ministries, our lives. In the presence of it all, God’s plan has not altered or been revised.
He is still in control.
He is putting the pieces of the end times together.
He is still expanding His Kingdom.
And on God’s calendar – His day-timer – there is a day – the day – He has marked off when the Father looks at the Son and says, “Today is the day. Go get your Bride – My church.”
If there is any message I have of the Lord for us today, it would be just this, hang in there and be faithful. These 2 qualities will sustain us until He comes. Not wavering or shaken. Fear has possessed our land. Fear is controlling our lives and our decision making. Fear is creating what we dread. Fear has paralyzed many, and life and living are on hold. We cannot – we must not – put our spiritual lives on hold.
What I’m saying is, don’t give up! We must protect our minds and guard our hearts and fill our mouths with good news.

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain
