Detective Donald Mackinder is a cop who is short on friends and time as he investigates a serial killer who has displayed his latest victim over the burial grounds where Mackinder's father (Bobby) and uncle (Ricky) buried multiple bodies forty years ago.

Dime-Store Detective flashes back and forth from the present to 1981 when Donald Mackinder's father and uncle were embroiled in a moonshiner war with a rival gang. In 1981, the Mackinder brothers were feared and respected moonshiners in north Georgia. When a rival gang attempts to force the brothers out of business, it results in an all-out war. While searching the Appalachian mountains for a new hiding spot for their still, the Mackinder brothers inadvertently release an evil entity trapped in a cave for hundreds of years.
