Cryptocurrency Whale's Wallet Hacked, $25M Drained
Update: 2025-12-18
Description
Cryptocurrency Attacker Drains Funds from Compromised Wallet: A multi-signature wallet, reportedly controlled by a whale, was compromised just minutes after creation, with funds slowly drained over weeks. New analysis suggests the theft may have started in November, with the attacker patiently moving and laundering funds in stages. The wallets ownership was transferred to the attacker shortly after creation, possibly indicating the attacker set up the wallet themselves. The attacker has been depositing funds into Tornado Cash in batches over several weeks, with around twenty-five million dollars still in the compromised wallet. Possible attack methods include malware, phishing scams, or poor security practices.
