The three angels were with the aspect of fire for Gabriel, water for Michael, and Air for Raphael. In this case, only Gabriel alone could burn the food with fire, which is not the case with Michael and Raphael, who are not fire. He explains that each one had fire, water, and Air, and for that reason, it is written “and they ate” because there was a fire in each of them, in which the food burned.

The angels consumed everything served to them by Abraham because he is on the Right, which is Chessed, and they want to draw the Light of Chassadim as much as they can.

Similarly, a person needs to drink from a cup of blessing so that by drinking it, he will receive the blessing from above. Even the angels ate from what Abraham served them so that by eating, they would gain sustenance from Abraham’s side, that is, the light of Chassadim, because, from that side, nourishment continues for all the supernal angels.

“וַיַּשְׁקִפוּ” “Then the men rose from there and looked toward (וַיַּשְׁקִפוּ) Sodom.” This word means an awakening of Mercy to save Lot. And we learn that from a similar aspect, where it is written;

Deuteronomy 26:15

“הַשְׁקִיפָה מִמְּעוֹן קָדְשְׁךָ מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם וּבָרֵךְ אֶת עַמְּךָ אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֵת הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר נָתַתָּה לָנוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתָּ לַאֲבֹתֵינוּ אֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבָשׁ.”

“Look down (הַשְׁקִיפָה) from Your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless Your people Israel and the land which You have given us, just as You swore to our fathers, “a land flowing with milk and honey.”

The root of the Hebrew word in both places is the same. The verse in Deuteronomy connects to the Mercy of Hashem when he looks at his people and blesses them. Using the exact root of the word with the angels also points to the aspect of Mercy.

Lesson;

We have great power in our eyes, and we should use that to ‘broadcast’ Mercy wherever we go. We don’t need to ‘advertise’ our actions. Hashem spreads his Mercy over all of us without telling. We should do the same, and quietly bless everyone in our path, and connect to the Mercy of Hashem in this world.
