Daily Zohar 4981

Holy Zohar text. Daily Zohar -4981

Zohar Noach

Continued from previous DZ

#177

Come and see, it is

written: “בַּקְּשׁוּ צֶדֶק בַּקְּשׁוּ עֲנָוָה אוּלַי תִּסָּתְרוּ בְּיוֹם אַף יְהוָה”, “Seek righteousness, seek humility, perhaps you will be hidden in the day of YHVH’s anger” (Zephaniah 2:3). And Noach sought righteousness, and entered into the ark, and was hidden in the day of YHVH’s anger. And therefore, the judgment could not prevail over him or accuse him.

#178

Here it is hinted to the holy upper ones to understand and know in the secret of the sacred upper letters, that the reversal of the order of the twenty-two letters is to wipe out those wicked ones. Therefore, it is written: “וַיִּמָּחוּ מִן הָאָרֶץ”, “And they were wiped out from the earth” (Genesis 7:23 ), and it is written: “בֹּא אַתָּה וְכָל בֵּיתְךָ אֶל הַתֵּבָה”, “Come, you and all your household, into the ark” (Genesis 7:1).

The meaning is: For there are two orders in the twenty-two letters: 1) The straight order, אבגדהו (Aleph-Bet-Gimel-Dalet-Hei-Vav, etc.), which indicates mercy. 2) The reversed order, תשרק (Tav-Shin-Resh-Kuf, etc.), which indicates judgment. And behold, בית (bayit, house) and תיבה (teivah, ark) are the same letters (that is, according to the Zohar’s version, where תיבה, teivah, is written full with Yud). But בית, bayit, is in the straight order: בBet-יYud- תTav. And תיבה, teivah, is in the reversed order: תTav-יYud-בBet, indicating judgment, and the final ה Hei is resting and not required. And it is said: “בֹּא אַתָּה וְכָל בֵּיתְךָ אֶל הַתֵּבָה”, “Come, you and all your household, into the ark,” which is given to understand that the attribute of mercy, hinted at in בית, bayit, enters and is hidden within the attribute of judgment, hinted at in תיבה, teivah. In such a way that all that the תיבה, teivah does not accept is wiped out from the earth. And this is what it says: And therefore, “וַיִּמָּחוּ מִן הָאָרֶץ”, “And they were wiped out from the earth,” and it is written: “בֹּא אַתָּה וְכָל בֵּיתְךָ אֶל הַתֵּבָה”, “Come, you and all your household, into the ark.” Therefore, they were wiped out from the earth, because the attribute of mercy, hinted at in בית, bayit, was restricted and entered within the attribute of judgment, hinted at in תיבה, teivah, and all that is not protected by the תיבה, teivah, is wiped out from the earth.

Notes:

This Zohar study (#177–#178) continues #176’s focus on Noach’s salvation. (Zephaniah 2:3), explaining Noach’s righteousness (Tzaddik, Yessod) and concealment in the ark shielded him from judgment. #178 interprets וַיִּמָּחוּ מִן הָאָרֶץ and בֹּא אַתָּה וְכָל בֵּיתְךָ אֶל הַתֵּבָה (Genesis 7:1, 7:23 ), linking the reversed letter order (תיבה, teivah, judgment) to the Flood’s destruction, with בית, bayit (mercy) protecting Noach. This continues the Noach theme of divine preservation amidst judgment.

Main Point: Noach’s righteousness and concealment in the ark (בַּקְּשׁוּ צֶדֶק) saved him, with בית, bayit (mercy) within תיבה, teivah (judgment) protecting the righteous, while the wicked were wiped out (וַיִּמָּחוּ).

#179

Rabbi Yitzchak opened: “מוֹלִיךְ לִימִין מֹשֶׁה זְרוֹעַ תִּפְאַרְתּוֹ”, “Who led by the right hand of Moses with the arm of His glory” (Isaiah 63:12 ). The arm of His glory, this is the merit of Abraham, which is the secret of Chessed, which is to the right of Moses, the glory (Tiferet) of Moses. That is, Moses is the secret of Tiferet, and Chessed is to his right, which is Tiferet. And the part of the verse, “and the arm,” is the arm of the right, of the glory of Moses. And for this reason, He parted the waters before them, for the merit of Abraham, which is Chessed, parted the waters. And all this for what? To make for Himself an everlasting name.

Notes:

This Zohar passage, under the article “What Distinguishes Moses from Other People of the World,” interprets “מוֹלִיךְ לִימִין מֹשֶׁה זְרוֹעַ תִּפְאַרְתּוֹ” (Isaiah 63:12 ). Rabbi Yitzchak identifies Moses as Tiferet (middle line), with Abraham’s Chessed (right line) as his merit, parting the waters. This zivug of Chessed and Tiferet establishes YHVH’s everlasting name, distinguishing Moses’ leadership.
