Daily Zohar 4982

Holy Zohar text. Daily Zohar -4982

Zohar Noach

Continued from previous DZ

#180

Come and see what distinguishes Moses from other people of the world. At the time when the Holy One, blessed be He, said to Moses: “וְעַתָּה הַנִּיחָה לִּי… וְאֶעֱשֶׂה אֹתְךָ לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל”, “And now, let Me alone… and I will make you into a great nation” (Exodus 32:10 ), immediately Moses said: “Shall I, for the sake of my own benefit, abandon the judgment of Israel and not seek mercy for them? Now all the people of the world will say that I killed Israel, as Noach did.”

#181

Since the Holy One, blessed be He, said to him (Noah) that He would save him in the ark, as it is written: “וַאֲנִי הִנְנִי מֵבִיא אֶת הַמַּבּוּל”, “And behold, I am bringing the flood” (Genesis 6:17 ), and it is written: “וּמָחִיתִי”, “And I will wipe out” (Genesis 6:7),

and “וּבָאתָ אֶל הַתֵּבָה”, “And you shall come into the ark” (Genesis 7:1), since He said to him that he and his sons would be saved, he did not seek mercy for the world, and they were destroyed. And for this reason, the waters of the Flood are called by his name, as it is said: “כִּי מֵי נֹחַ זֹאת לִי”, “For these are the waters of Noach to Me” (Isaiah 54:9).

#182

Moses said, “Now the people of the world will say that I killed them. Because He said to me: “וְאֶעֱשֶׂה אֹתְךָ לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל”, “And I will make you into a great nation” (Exodus 32:10 ), now it is better for me to die than for Israel to perish.” Immediately, “וַיְחַל מֹשֶׁה”, “And Moses besought” (Exodus 32:11 ), he sought mercy for them, and mercy was aroused for the world.

Notes:

This Zohar study, under the title “What Distinguishes Moses from Other People of the World,” contrasts Moses’ intercession with Noach’s inaction. (Exodus 32:10 ), where Moses rejects personal gain to seek mercy for Israel, unlike Noach. #181 cites “וַאֲנִי הִנְנִי מֵבִיא, וּמָחִיתִי, וּבָאתָ” (Genesis 6:7, 7:1), and “כִּי מֵי נֹחַ” (Isaiah 54:9), noting Noach’s failure to seek mercy, naming the Flood waters after him. #182 highlights Moses’ plea (וַיְחַל מֹשֶׁה, Exodus 32:11 ), arousing mercy, distinguishing his selflessness. This emphasizes Moses’ role in sustaining zivug for divine mercy.

Main Point: Moses’ intercession (וַיְחַל מֹשֶׁה) for Israel, unlike Noach’s inaction (כִּי מֵי נֹחַ), restores zivug’s mercy, distinguishing his selfless leadership.
