David Garfunkel - "Building Community" From Peace Corps to re-building a forgotten neighborbhood
Description
David Garfunkel is President & CEO of LIFT JAX, an initiative of business and community leaders working to eradicate generational poverty in Jacksonville. David leads LIFT JAX in its role as Community Quarterback, the nonprofit organization that drives the community revitalization initiative in Jacksonville’s Eastside in partnership with resident leaders.
His journey of being helpful started straight out of college and into the Peace Corps. David talks about his time in Haiti after the earthquake and how it helped to shape the trajectory of his career.
Heading to Jacksonville with his young family, sight unseen, David has managed to lift up a historic neighborhood, bringing a grocery store to a food dessert and building coalitions in a now vibrant but long forgotten neighborhood.
