Description
You probably know David Suzuki; the scientist, the broadcaster, the guy who sounded the alarm about climate change long before most knew it was a thing. But there are other things he can speak to with authority — and growing older is one of them. In his early 80s, Suzuki’s moving a little more slowly, but he’s still building treehouses for his grandkids and thinking big thoughts. Like, what would the world look like if we put our seniors on elder councils instead of out to pasture? He gets into it all with Anna Maria Tremonti: his long career, his father’s death, his fear of dementia and how to make peace with mortality.

Dementia is also something I fear but fortunately for at least me, I live in Canada and can have control over when and how I die if I end up with something horrible. I can also c ontrol whether I am a burden on this world or an asset after I die. I plan on being an asset for research into head injuries and have already taken those steps. I don't have high hopes for the human race who doesn't seem to ever be able to put its resources in the right place. The only thing I feel sure of in my heart is the world will find its way back to health but humans, regardless of how mighty we think of ourselves, are just a blip on the screen.
we are too wrapped up in stuff and more stuff to listen and care - until it happens to us. then we will react in anger and blame. not sure people are worth saving as we are the virus to this beautiful world.
