Dear Evan Hansen, the musical version, came out in 2016. I had avoided all spoilers until I was able to see the film a few weeks ago, five years later. How such a celebrated musical could be turned into such a disappointing film was confusing to me, so I dug into the music to find out where the problems lie. The music and plot of this show do not seem to fit together, and I explain why that hurts the entire production.
