Mike Gibbs and Fred Greiner with the Boone Area Veterans Center provide an update on the status of the project. Most of the activity has now turned to fund raising and their goal remains $5-million to construct the new building at 807 6th Street. The most recent update is that they are at 21% of their goal. Greiner says that’s ahead of the amount expected at this time. Gibbs says there will be a fund raising opportunity planned for November 15 with Moffitt Ford. Aired Friday, October 17, 2025.

Sgt. Ryan Palmer, Boone Police Department is the guest and visits about Trunk or Treat next week, which will be the unofficial kickoff of Shop With a Cop. Palmer reviewed some of the information about Shop With a Cop. The Boone PD Benevolence Association will be taking nominations and forms are available at the Boone Police Department. The deadline will be November 10th. The Association would also like to hear from those willing to volunteer to help with the event on December 11th. Aired Thursday, October 16, 2025.

John Roosa, Administrator, Boone County Landfill and Boone County Recycling talks about landfill operations. He talks more about the newest numbers indicating that with the development of the last targeted cell for solid waste disposal, operations could last more than 24 years. However future growth and development will have an impact. He talked about taking yard waste on Thursday, Friday and Saturday til mid-November. Dr. Julie Trepa, Superintendent, Boone Community School District talks about the Boone School Board meeting. She reviewed the presentations on curriculum materials being considered for reading. Trepa also reviewed some of the preliminary numbers for enrollment. The official enrollment numbers will be determined on October 15th. Hannah Park, Prevention Specialist, Community and Family Resources, provides information on free training sessions available through CFR as a result of a State Opioid Response Grant. Park has already conducted a number of trainings and says she expects more to be scheduled. As a prevention specialist, she also talked about Red Ribbon Week, the history of Red Ribbon Week and some of the prevention based information being made available this time of the year. Holly Stecker, Director Downtown Boone Mainstreet, provides updates on Mainstreet activities, including ongoing training and recruitment of more people interested in supporting and work with the Downtown Boone effort. She updates information about the Downtown Arch project, including an update on the timing and traffic issues. She also reviews a very busy calendar of activities and events taking place in October. Marty Lamoureux, Board Member, Boone County Historical Society, talks about programs and projects for the Historical Society. First she touched on work done to address landscaping around the Historical Center. The project is not expected to be completed until next spring. Lamoureux also talked about the recent ribbon cutting of the Fareway Gallery and she said November will feature a Veterans Display with special focus on Vietnam Veterans. Eli Stines, Boone Mayor, talks about the Monday night Boone City Council Meeting. He reviews the Councils split decision to provide additional funds to the Boone Fire Department for the Part-Time Salaries budget line. He says the move will help provide additional personnel during busy call times rather than use call back of fulltime firefighters. The Council also approved a property exchange at the airport with the Iowa National Guard. The exchange will allow the Guard to expand facilities and address their growing programs and operations. Several cast members are new to Boone Community Theatre, others have not been on stage for a couple of years and others are regular participants with Boone Community Theatre. Mikaela Kienitz, Chief Executive Officer at the Boone County Hospital on Health Talk, speaking about the business at BCH. Recently the Board of Trustees received a preliminary audit report, with quite a bit of positive information. Kienitz talks about the financial position and notes that closing the second operating room has resulted in a loss of revenue. Repairs from the water damage are nearing completion. Ground Breaking for the Reconstructed Downtown Arch. Dave Cook is the guest on the program about the planned ground breaking, now scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 4:00 at 5th and Story Streets in Boone. Cook says the goal is to have the project completed, weather permitting, by mid-December to allow for a dedication ceremony. Aired Monday, September 29, 2025.

Zach Stier and Ronda Kelley, Ericson Public Library, talk about programming for the end of September and during the month of October. The Boone Fire Department will visit during story time on October 8th and 9th and visit about Fire Prevention Month and fire safety. Special activities are planned for Monday, October 20th including the Seed Harvest Program with Boone County Naturalist Kyle Neuendorf and a Taylor Swift Album Release Party. Heyer also talks about the upcoming school election and the Board’s decision to include the Revenue Purpose Statement on the ballot and also the request to extend the Physical, Plant and Equipment of PPEL Levy. National Public Lands Day will be Saturday, September 27 and both the Ledges State Park offers a chance to volunteer and appreciate our public lands. This year, Boone County Conservation is also planning an event featuring their remnant prairie with a presentation from Dr. Tom Rosburg. Dr. Julie Trepa, Superintendent, Boone Community School District speaks about the most recent School Board Meeting, held Monday, September 15th. Trepa first speaks about the issue at the Boone Middle School with a student having a fake gun. She talks about the actions of the students to let people know about the matter and then the way staff handled the situation. She also talks about the review of the results from the Iowa Statewide Assessment.
