Dr. Flavia Maia is an environmental leader whose education is rooted in the principles of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and freedom, drawing inspiration from both Buddhist teachings and the Latin American tradition of Medicine Women. She teaches only what she experienced herself, sharing powerful insights shaped by over 15 years of climate front line activism in Brazil and her involvement with thousands of leaders across the globe, including President Obama, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Christiana Figueres. In this episode, we talk about her path and how it pivoted during Covid, when she was forced to return home to Brazil. The story is awe-inspiring as she turned her attention to women on the ground who were preserving and taking care of the rainforests and mangroves of her region.
As a woman from the Global South, and a descendant of climate migrants, Dr. Maia brings a unique perspective to leadership, offering motivational speeches and thought-provoking writings that inspire diversity, equity, and inclusion-DEI-while focusing on lasting and positive impact.
