EU to Assist Lebanon's Internal Security Forces
Update: 2025-12-08
Description
The European Union is planning a special mission in early 2026 to assist Lebanons internal security forces, aiming to help the Lebanese army focus on disarming Hezbollah. This comes as a fragile truce between Lebanon and Israel remains, with Israel regularly striking Lebanese territory. The EUs efforts will not replace UNIFILs duties but will gradually shift internal security tasks from the Lebanese Armed Forces to the Internal Security Forces. The EU also plans to help secure Lebanons land border with Syria and may provide advice, training, and equipment. This mission comes before a scheduled meeting between EU and Lebanese officials in Brussels on December 15th.
