Ponelo Kalonga has lived in poverty. She knows it firsthand. Now thirty years old, Ponelo is committed to reforming education for girls in central and southern Malawi. Ponelo's initiative, Save the Village Youth Foundation, is devoted to help young girls remain in school. Childhood marriages, pregnancy, poverty and cultural discrimination are everyday occurrences, and she is working to help change the lives of many young girls through education and informed decisions.
