Description

Emma-Jean Thackray joins Jamz Supernova as they discuss ’Save Me’ from her Mercury Award shortlisted album, Weirdo.

Emma-Jean explores how music became a vehicle to express herself through personal tragedy, when speaking openly to friends and family didn’t seem possible.

Emma-Jean unpacks an album that is simultaneously a grief diary, sonically reflecting the rollercoaster of emotions one goes through when losing a loved one, whilst also honestly documenting her experience with neurodivergence, the superpowers and challenges that come with it.

Jamz and Emma-Jean also touch on confessional poetry and the influences of Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton on her lyrical style, on the complexity of writing and performing through grief, and the bravery of the artist’s role in holding a mirror up to their audience.
