Eric (his English name) grew up partly outside of Shanghai, China and then in Shanghai. He is now a Software Engineer that maneuvers through his Shanghai life in a multitude of languages including Mandarin Chinese, Shanghaiese, English, Japanese and French. In this conversation we talk about:
-how he learned his 1st language-both the spoken and written form
-how learning his other languages compared to his Chinese 1st language experience
-what languages he reads in and why
-how technology has changed language learning
-how street signs in China include a script that is not a language at all
