Description

Josh Powell went to court in Washington in a bid to get his sons, Charlie and Braden, returned to him. West Valley City police warned the social workers they'd found incestuous cartoon pornography on Josh's computer. After reviewing those images, forensic psychologist James Manley suggested Josh undergo a psychosexual evaluation. Meantime, detectives puzzled over why Josh's brother, Michael Powell, sold his 1997 Ford Taurus to Lindell Auto in Pendleton, Ore. just weeks after Susan Powell's disappearance.

For the past three years, investigative reporter Dave Cawley has been studying thousands of police documents, journals, videos and diary entries. He has tracked down new sources, followed new leads and traced Josh Powell's trail from West Valley City, Utah, through Idaho, Oregon, Nevada and on to Washington State, where Powell killed himself and his two sons. Cold is the most complete retelling of the Susan Powell story ever. Join Dave Cawley in his search for truth. Share your thoughts: #ColdPodcast #FindSusan Twitter Instagram Facebook

Perhaps this is an odd question, but I'd like to know why the porn found on Josh's computer was cashed "incest porn". The officer described tentacle porn but that's not necessarily incest. And 300-400 might be considered a relatively small collection in the kink community. Possession of porn by an adult dies not mean they sexually advise their child or allow their child to be advised by others. I find this angle of the questioning disturbing if there was no link between porn and his children, especially if persuing this line with the psychosexual test is what lead ultimately to him murdering his own children.

Rane dae The incest porn was between cartoon children & their cartoon parents. Which is meant to introduce & normalize the idea of children & adults doing unspeakable things to small children. I remember hearing about that part of it when it happened originally....thot I'd heard all about all of it, back when it happened. Then I heard this!!!!

This podcast is horrifying in its organization of facts regarding a truly sad case. listening to this, I recall when my boys were 4 & 6. They could be described as these boys were : brilliant, wild, weird and emotionally stunted. How overwhelmed I was then (and still) I felt such compassion for anyone in that parenting scenario.

Andrea Hoover I can understand that connection, Andrea. "Cold" is absolutely the most appropos title! Parenting is hard. I'm fairly imaginative and interested in emotional dynamics, including grief in it's many forms. I have some idea how I'd hope I'd support my children if their father disappeared. But if his disappearance was my responsibility? beep boop does not compute! But I think I'd try a little harder to attend to them. The disconnect of Steve is miraculous, don't you think? Those grandparents tried so hard to protect those children. My heart goes out to them.

Rane dae I think I misunderstood your comment about having compassion for anyone in that parenting scenario. it's an emotional case and it's taken me weeks to come back to it so my reaction was emotional. As for porn, the context of the circumstances had a lot to do with the scrutinizing the type of porn on the computers. I don't think the porn alone would have been sufficient for concern. I just wish this whole thing had a different outcome.
