South Carolina men's basketball entered the year with hopes of an NCAA tournament berth, and those hopes received a massive boost after the Gamecocks defeated Clemson and top-10 Virginia in back-to-back games before Christmas.

Then, just before SEC play, Frank Martin's squad lost at home to one of the lowest-rated teams in all of Division I basketball, Stetson.
