Description

Local legends from across Southern India reveal a great deal about the complex and syncretic histories of the region. These range from Catholic goddesses who are considered the siblings of the Tamil heroine Kannagi, to legends of the Deccan god Mallanna visiting Mecca. Anirudh Kanisetti speaks to independent researcher Vivek Joseph to unravel this tapestry of stories and what they tell us about the interactions between religions and social groups.
