Description
In the twilight days of the Estado Novo,
as the country teeters dangerously on the brink of a tryst with destiny, and passions and dreams run to fever pitch, 4 people's lives are swept up in the heady currents of a burgeoning revolution.
Luis: A shy, reticent man who used to be in awe of his two more glamorous university mates, the charismatic Carlos and the sassy Ana and secretly in love with the latter. After University, Carlos disappeared suddenly and Luis managed to persuade a vulnerable Ana to marry him. Now they have a rocky marriage that is barely hanging together. She distracts herself by going to the Stalin Circle, a Maoist research and study group and he works as a PIDE agent.
Carlos: The charismatic irreverent Maoist, he is spotted by the Nun, a legendary spy who works for the soviet union and recruited into the Maoist cause. After 5 years spent supporting insurgencies in Portuguese Africa, he is finally back in Lisbon for one last big assignment.
Ana: A sassy emotively feisty young woman who had a tender spot for Carlos while at University, was hurt when he suddenly disappeared and now one day, receives a phone call from Carlos saying 'I am back', thrusting her into a fast spiralling web of intrigue and deceit as Carlos recruits her to work for the Maoists
Isa: A poet and doctor who has been in love with Luis since her university days but has chosen to stay away from him since his marriage to Ana. She runs across him recently and old flames and loyalties stir. She is recruited by the HUN, a british intelligence operative who is using Portugal to play a fencing match against the Nun.
As their lives and loves intersect and mingle in the simmering unrest of the late 1960s, events start conspiring towards a catastrophic end.
A radio.- dramatico in 8 episodes of season 1 and planned for 3 seasons.
