He's the author of How to Be a Family, a memoir of parenting around the world; The World Only Spins Forward (with Isaac Butler), an oral history of Tony Kushner's Angels in America; and Facing Future, a book of music criticism and biography. He lives with his family in Arlington, Virginia.
