We sit down with Bill Gaskins who spent 21 years in the Air Force, course Director of 5 different College Credit awarding canine training programs where he developed and delivered courseware and evaluated dog teams on three levels; dog, handler, and overall team. Bill is also a  sport Scent Work Judge for all levels of AKC Scent Work and an NACSW Judge, judging trials all over the Northeast.⁣

We touch on Bill’s class, O-O-D-A Loop, or Observe-Orient-Decide-Act. This js a situational awareness tool used by the Military, Police, and Business to teach how to quickly process information and then act on the best information you have. the challenges faced by handlers in different scenarios, such as explosives detection and narcotics detection. We talk about the differences between training working dogs and pet dogs, as well as the growing interest in pet detection training. We also discuss the role of corrections in training and the unique characteristics of civilian handlers.⁣
