The main character, played by Awkwafina, is Katie Kim, a budding actress who recently moved to the area and is unaware of the lottery. To make matters worse, she unintentionally signs up for it and wins the jackpot; as a result, she has no understanding why the entire town is out to get her! Fortunately for Katie, Noel, a security services employee, volunteers to keep her safe in exchange for a 10% share of her profits. The remainder of the film is devoted to avoiding homicidal lunatics who want Katie's blood and money. The first 45 minutes of "Jackpot!" are hilariously good, with a variety of characters attempting to murder Katie because it's allowed in California. These characters include actors, models, athletes, biker gangs, food truck drivers, professors, students, grannies, and even the police.
