Description

Emma Klues, VP of Communications & Outreach at Great Rivers Greenway, and author Vivian Gibson join KTRS' John Carney and Julie Buck to discuss her book, The Last Children of Mill Creek. The once-thriving Mill Creek Valley neighborhood in the City of St. Louis was destroyed and its 20,000 Black residents were displaced in 1959 in the name of “urban renewal”.

GRG is hosting a virtual book discussion with Ms. Gibson along with historian Lois Conley, journalist Jade Harrell, and educator Sarah Miller to share experiences of being a part of the Mill Creek Valley community and talk about what we can learn from Mill Creek Valley today. If you missed that discussion live, you can watch it here on GRG’s YouTube channel.

Great Rivers Greenway is working with partners to celebrate the stories of Mill Creek Valley residents as part of the Brickline Greenway project. Mill Creek Valley and its former residents will be commemorated through a public art installation by nationally-acclaimed artist Damon Davis on a portion of the Brickline Greenway along Market St. between Compton Ave. and 20th St.
