Episode 5 - Yes, We're Haitian Feat. Al Patron
Description
This week, we speak to Alain Patron, best-selling author and creator of the InvenTV Network, A platform where Black artists can tell their stories and share their talents. We celebrated the release of his 9th Book “Yes, We’re Haitian” with an intimate digital book release event. A night of art and culture. We speak about the inspiration behind the book, growing up Haitian, Haitian representation in the media, and how the story is relatable to anyone in the African Diaspora. We took it to the Skills Challenge and Story Time too.
We then took questions from the audience (1:20:00 ) where we discussed a wide range of topics, cracked jokes, and communed as one family. Given the atrocities of police brutality, murder, systemic racism, and every other ism against Black people that reached a fever pitch over the last week, I didn’t think it was right to release this on Friday. I do think we need as many outlets to enjoy ourselves, care for ourselves, and decompress from a demoralizing news cycle.
Blackness will NEVER be extinguished. It will only refine itself and prosper. The time is now. Listen and hear various tales from the children of Haiti and how the indelible mark of 1804 can bestow hope among Black people in America today. ✊🏽
