Episode 55 - Author John U. Bacon on his new book, "The Gales of November."
Description
All 29 crew members of the Edmund Fitzgerald were lost when the most important freighter on the Great Lakes sank in Lake Superior. November 10, 1975 marks the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the ship in what has been termed "the storm of the century." In his definitive account, Bacon draws on interviews with more than 100 families, friends and former crewmates of those lost. During our conversation, he also tells the story behind the story of Canadian folk singer Gordon Lightfoot's haunting ballad, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," which chronicles the ship's final voyage.
