Eschatology
Below is an excerpt from today’s message on Eschatology.
Good Morning! I wanted to start with a quick announcement that this upcoming week and the
week following is going to be my yearly study break. It’s an opportunity for me to just kind of get
away from everything and spend some time with the Lord and experience some rejuvenation,
read a bunch, and just seek his will and discernment so I’m gonna ask for prayers from you all
for me about this. I’m greatly looking forward to this. You all are going to be in great hands. We
have two amazing guest speakers in the next two weeks. Diego and Nancy are going to be
preaching for us and they are both awesome and they have incredible things to say. They are
both coming from The Gospel of John so if you like John you definitely want to come and hear
this. It’s going to be really good. I’m so really grateful for them and I will see you all in a couple
of weeks. This morning we are finishing our series called Foundations and we are looking at the
core essential key truths of the Christian faith. We have been going through the series for a
plethora of reasons. One is because there is often times in churches like ours or
nondenominational churches something that’s a teaching that is kind of surveying the whole of
the Christian faith that we’re able to give to new believers or who are coming into faith.
Also at least personally for me it has been a great study for me to grow to grow in my understanding of
a lot of these truths in my ability to articulate it to other people and it has been a formational
process for me and I hope it has been for you as well. We’ve talked about the nature of
scripture. We have talked about who God is and the teaching of the Trinity and how God is
loving community and how that changes so much. We’ve talked about the nature of human
beings. We’ve talked about the nature of our sins. We talked about how Jesus is fully God and
fully man and takes all our sin upon himself in the cross and through the resurrection gives us
power over sin and frees us. We experience salvation “Praise the Lord” for that and that we
receive the Holy Spirit who sanctifies us and chips away at us and helps to refine us and to
make us more and more like Jesus. Last week we talked about the community of people who
are filled by the Holy Spirit that is the church and who we are supposed to be and the kinds of
things the church is supposed to be about and the mission that we are committed to. This
morning we are talking about where all of this is heading. We’re talking about Eschatology, the
study of the end times or the last things. How are things going to end is the question we’re
diving into this morning. What does the future have in store for us? In some ways I feel like my
sermon wrote itself this week because if you all are on the internet and are in circles of Christian
media I’m sure that you saw something that the rapture happened this past Tuesday. So sorry
we’re in trouble! No, obviously the rapture did not happen!
