Desperate Housewives was being watched by over 30 million people during its first season in 2004. During that first season, the show won dozens of awards, being parodied on Saturday Night Live & late night, & the shows commercials and billboards were everywhere. One other thing that made Desperate Housewives even more famous was its problems behind the scenes, especially between its cast. The drama went mainstream when the Desperate Housewives cast had an explosive shoot with Vanity Fair that was so outrageous that Vanity Fair actually called the cast out in the accompanying article. 

From that point on, people became just as interested in the behind the scenes drama as they were in the show itself.
