Description

In this episode of The Truth in This Art, I sit down with multidisciplinary artist, curator, and award-winning filmmaker Imani Dennison. Imani’s work dives deep into Black culture in the South and the African diaspora, using storytelling to explore themes of folklore, fantasy, and hidden histories. We talk about her upbringing in Louisville, Kentucky, her time at Howard University, and how these experiences shaped her artistic voice. Imani shares her love for documentary filmmaking and photography, and we discuss her latest film, The People Could Fly, which highlights the history of roller rink culture in Louisville and its significance as a community space.

Join me as we unpack Imani’s creative process, her passion for archiving Black histories, and how she brings her unique perspective to the world of film and art.
