Marco Rubio:
Today, building on the Presidentâs historic commitment to uproot Antifaâs campaign of political violence, the Department of State is designating four Antifa groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists. The United States will continue using all available tools to protect our nation from these anti-American, anti-capitalist, and anti-Christian terrorist groups. So what does this mean?
It becomes a federal crime to provide any support to those groups
1. Money, supplies, training, travel assistance, hosting members, even sharing resources can trigger federal âmaterial support for terrorismâ chargesâsome of the most serious charges in U.S. law.
2. Members and leaders become priority targets for U.S. intelligence
FTO designation allows:
surveillance
financial tracking
asset freezing
intelligence sharing with allies
covert and overt disruption operations
Theyâre treated the same way the U.S. treats ISIS, Hezbollah, IRGC, etc. in terms of investigative authority.
3. Their U.S.-based networks can be prosecuted
Even if the groups are European, anyone in the U.S. who collaborates with themâdirectly or indirectlyâcan be investigated and charged.
4. Visa bans and deportations
Foreign nationals associated with those groups: cannot enter the U.S.
Can be deported if already here
5. Financial chokehold
Banks are forbidden from handling money connected to designated groups.
Assets can be seized immediately.
6. Pressure on European governments
The U.S. designation forces EU/NATO allies to confront these groupsâoften more seriously than they were before.
