French Prime Minister's job is on line with calls for confidence vote
Update: 2025-08-27
Description
A new poll in France shows almost two thirds of voters want parliament dissolved and new elections held as the French Prime Minister François Bayrou fights to hold onto power.
In a rare move, Mr Bayrou has called for a confidence vote next month in the hope of winning support for his budget cuts worth 44 billion euros.
Opposition parties say they will reject the budget package, meaning Mr Bayrou could be forced from office.
