Update: 2025-12-10
Description
GCHQs Christmas Card Challenge: A Fun Brain Workout for Young MindsThis year, the UKs intelligence agency, GCHQ, has released its annual Christmas card, featuring a series of cryptic puzzles and hidden codes designed to test the problem-solving skills of children aged eleven to eighteen. The card is a unique collaboration between schoolchildren and GCHQs own experts, with three winners selected from a design competition to have their work featured on the card. The seven puzzles on the card are crafted by GCHQs in-house puzzlers, aiming to assess skills like intuitive reasoning and lateral thinking. GCHQ Director Anne Keast-Butler and Chief Puzzler Colin hope that this challenge will encourage the next generation to explore STEM subjects and consider careers in cybersecurity and intelligence.
