Description

Galileo: The Father of Modern Science

Guest: Mario Livio, author, "Galileo and the Science Deniers"

Galileo was a great scientist whose discoveries landed him in house arrest. But he was not a heretic; in fact, he was a believer. His argument was that the Bible was for salvation, not written as a science text.

Earthrise

Guest: Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee, Emmy-nominated filmmaker and director of "Earthrise: The Image that Shared our World"

The Apollo 8 mission captured an image of Earth that amazed the billion people watching it on TV at the time: the cratered but barren surface of the moon in the foreground, and the earth in the black sky beyond, nearly half-eclipsed by the shadow of the moon. Referring to this view, Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell said, "The vast loneliness is awe-inspiring and it makes you realize just what you have back there on Earth."  How the "Earthrise" photo changed our perspective of our planet.

Holocaust Story

Guest: Jeff Jacoby, columnist, "The Boston Globe"

Jeff Jacoby’s father, Mark Jacoby, is a Holocaust survivor. More than that, though, he is a father, a husband, a practicing Jew, and a happy man.  This is the story of the triumph of faith and the human spirit.
