Description

The San Francisco Giants are taking a risk by leaving three top prospects unprotected in the upcoming Major League Baseball Rule Five draft. These players, Tyler Vogel, Jack Choate, and Will Bednar, have been highlighted by Baseball America as promising talents. Vogel, a right-handed pitcher, has impressive numbers and could potentially become a future closer, but may not be ready for the majors until late 2026. Choate and Bednar, also pitchers, are still developing and need more time before reaching the big leagues. Any team selecting one of these prospects must have an open spot on their forty-man roster and pay the Giants $100,000. The selected player must remain on the roster for the entire season, or they can be offered back to the Giants for $50,000. The Giants are betting that other teams wont want to take on this commitment for players who still need development time.
