Glen Powell’s ‘Running Man’ Remake Has All The Wright Stuff
Description

Glen Powell is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood today, and his momentum continues with Glen Powell’s Running Man, a high-octane remake of the cult classic. He’s no stranger to stepping into big-name franchises. After standout performances in Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters, he’s now leading another fan-favorite project, one that promises explosive action and a fresh take on a dystopian favorite.
The original 1987 film made the lead role iconic thanks to Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, Powell steps into those legendary shoes, playing a man on the run literally in a deadly televised game of survival.
He also stars as a football quarterback in the new series Chad Powers, further proving just how in-demand he’s become.
Tracing the Origins of Glen Powell’s ‘Running Man’ Remake
Released in 1987, The Running Man was based on the novel by Stephen King (writing as Richard Bachman) and directed by Paul Michael Glaser — best known at the time as the star of the hit 1970s series Starsky & Hutch. The film starred Schwarzenegger as Ben Richards, a wrongly accused man forced to fight for his life in a violent, televised game show.
With its explosive action, sharp satire, and dystopian edge, the film earned cult classic status and remains one of Schwarzenegger’s most memorable roles of the ’80s.
How Edgar Wright Elevated Glen Powell’s ‘Running Man’ Remake
The new remake is helmed by Edgar Wright, who also co-wrote and co-produced the film. Powell says Wright’s passion for the source material brought out the best in everyone involved, resulting in what he calls “an extraordinary moviegoing experience.”
