Description

From being bullied at school and then in the workplace as an apprentice plumber, to running a $400 million per year capital program as the General Manager of Project Delivery at TasWater, Tony Willmott’s story is a powerful example of what can happen when you stop playing it safe.

As a child, Tony’s default response to conflict was avoidance or fighting to prove himself. That identity could have shaped his entire career, but when a serious back injury ended his plumbing career early, Tony had to chart a new path.

In this episode of Going Beyond the Predictable, we explore:

  • How avoidance showed up for Tony in life and leadership

  • Why our default identities don’t have to define us

  • We are never “ready” for the next thing - so why not get in a development gap, and find a way through?
