Graham Sweeney: A Musical Nomad
Green Rebel is back from winter hibernation. On this week's episode, we chat to Achill Island musician and artist Graham Sweeney. Recorded in a pub in Westport, just before his gig supporting Lisa Hannigan, Graham tells us about first picking up the guitar and where he is now, what he does when he doesn't play music and the hitchhikers and stories he has picked up on his adventures.
Graham's distinctive sound arises from a blend of traditional guitar playing, percussive finger-tapping and rhythmic vocal melodies.
He is influenced by many different styles of music and his inspiration comes from a wide range of sources, from English literature and poetry to the characters he comes across in daily life.
Over the past few years, Graham has toured with Declan O'Rourke, supported Mick Flannery and Damien Dempsey, and played solo gigs at venues all over the country.
