Description
Two people are dead after a student opened fire at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday afternoon. Initially, six people were hospitalized after being injured in a shooting at Florida State University (FSU) Thursday afternoon, officials confirmed to The Associated Press. Since the inital reports, two people have died from their injuries. TPD said the victims were not students at FSU.
In a news conference with the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD), 22-year-old student Phoenix Ikner was identified as the gunman. Police said he was neutralized and apprehended. The FSU Alert page posted at 3:20 p.m., stating that law enforcement has "neutralized the threat." The notice comes after one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition, a spokesperson for Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare said, and other patients were in serious condition. An office employee for the Leon County Medical Examiner’s office declined to release information on whether any deaths had been reported to their office at this time, noting that the investigation is still ongoing.
