Oh, and for a treat Friday edition, last night, in Foxboro, Massachusetts, a little road trip.
00:01:24
Here are the Patriots Museum, which chronicles a two-decade dynasty.
00:01:29
An elite group of historians, bookworms, and almost Andy fought and toiled and burned the Midnight Oil to deliver the best segment of sports.
00:01:38
It's an honor and a privilege.
00:01:39
It's time for a special edition of Dynastie Tears.
00:01:44
Wow, indeed it is.
00:01:45
It's a, I guess at this point, annual tradition.
00:01:48
As the chiefs here are going to play in the Super Bowl, we just figure out we did do this last year before the conference championship games, actually, is when we did it because I went back and watched it,
00:02:00
and we said the chiefs were two wins away from winning back to back Super Bowl, so that must have been when we did it.
00:02:06
It was probably regular Tears week, time of the week, because we didn't have enough teams left.
00:02:12
Okay, the other, well, let's just get to it.
00:02:15
We're doing like, actually, it's on a Wednesday.
00:02:17
You remember that Wednesday we had, we ordered out from Chipotle, that's actually, let's do the content, let's get to it.
00:02:27
Down is the goal, but the other element should be addressed is there's only six actual dynasties.
00:02:33
So these bottom two rows.
00:02:36
I would, it would have been or close, but I was looking out like, wait a minute.
00:02:40
All right, fifth row could have been but weren't the Raiders late 70s to early 80s, Washington in the 80s, the Giants in the 80s, the Giants again with Eli,
00:02:52
and then of course, the man, what could have been Buffalo builds, not Dynastie, of course, yes, and so here's the resumes of those five teams.
00:03:03
So you'll see all of them, multiple Super Bowl appearances, all of them but the bills, multiple Super Bowls, none of them, however, went back to back and none of them also had repeated Super Bowl appearances other than the ones they won,
00:03:20
the bills, of course, are kind of in their own category, what is going to four straight, we thought would never be done again.
00:03:26
Now we assume will be done in about 12 months and a week.
00:03:30
Fourth row.
00:03:31
So these are teams that were all time legendary teams, just didn't do it quite long enough.
00:03:38
Now the Packers are a weird one because they're Super Bowl era.
00:03:41
So it's Super Bowl era.
00:03:43
So if we were expanding it to NFL history, the Packers are clear cut Dynastie, Super Bowl era, they went to two, one, two, the Broncos obviously won back to back.
00:03:53
The Dolphins lost a Super Bowl, then won back to back and the Cowboys in the 70s with Roger Solvich, we can show you guys their resumes.
00:04:02
Again, Packers 2 for 2, Broncos 2 for 2, we told you about what the Dolphins did.
00:04:08
Those Cowboys didn't go back to back, they went to four though.
00:04:12
And in that eight-year stretch, we're in six conference championship games.
00:04:16
They were really close, probably one more, they would have won one of those Super bowls, they lost to the Steelers.
00:04:22
They probably then are, I think you could call that Miami team a Dynastie, the two in three years, I mean, the very least of many Dynastie, many Dynastie,
00:04:32
sure, many Dynastie, but now there are six true full-blown Dynasties, we will reveal them now.
00:04:40
The Cowboys from 92 to 95, the Patriots from '01 to '04, and the Patriots from '14 to '18, so looking at their resumes,
00:04:51
those Cowboys seem four-year stretch, four conference championship games, three Super Bowl appearances, three Super Bowl wins, the '01 to '04 Patriots and a four-year stretch.
00:05:00
Three Super Bowl wins, they obviously in the one year in the middle, missed the playoffs, which is a bit of an oddity, and then the Patriots from '14 to '18, in those five years,
00:05:11
went to four out of five Super bowls, became at the time just the third team ever to make three consecutive Super bowls, one three championships and never finished outside of the final four.
00:05:24
Now the three greatest Dynasties in NFL history, two and three.
00:05:28
The Niners of the '80s, and the Steel Curtain Steelers of the '70s, the resumes are spectacular, the Niners in a nine-year stretch, four trips to the Super Bowl,
00:05:40
four Super Bowl titles, what I don't want to say hurts them because they're so high up, but the reason they were not truly in contention for the top spot is a nine-year stretch,
00:05:51
only five spectacular years.
00:05:54
Four of the nine years, they didn't make the final four, you want to throw one of them out because there was a strike year that's fine still, three of the regular years they make the final four, and the Steelers in the '70s,
00:06:07
four titles, four Super Bowl appearances, five conference championship games, and then the greatest Dynastie in NFL history is the one we are currently watching.
00:06:18
One win shy of a 3P, the first team ever to make five out of six Super bowls.
00:06:25
There are no down years in this stretch, no down seasons, and the furthest they have been in this stretch for making the Super Bowl is an overtime three point loss.
00:06:38
Right now, that's what it looks like, in about ten days, it will look like this, just throw four up there.
00:06:46
The greatest dynasty we've ever seen is the dynasty we are currently seeing.
00:06:50
The 2019 to 2024 Kim City Chiefs, and we'll see how long they keep it going.
00:06:55
Greg Jennings, go right ahead.
00:06:57
Look, the Chiefs have obviously been spectacular.
00:07:00
I always question the Green Bay Packer one because of the Super Bowl World Championship era.
00:07:06
The Patriots, yeah, I get breaking it up, but I wouldn't break it up, but it's kind of like the mountain,
00:07:16
the all-time quarterback mountain that we had in Josh Allen was on there, and I was like, "Oh, there's one team that doesn't belong."
00:07:24
The Buffalo Bills, again, they don't belong.
00:07:28
Oh, really?
00:07:29
Four straight?
00:07:31
What did they win?
00:07:31
Exactly.
00:07:32
So, therefore, you take them off, and I look at the '05 to '10 Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:07:42
They won the Super Bowl in '05, they won the Super Bowl in '08, they had another Super Bowl appearance in '10 that they lost to yours truly.
00:07:50
But that team should be, I'm not saying they're a dynasty, but they definitely should be.
00:07:56
They should replace the Bills.
00:07:57
Should replace the Bills.
00:07:58
If the Giants do.
00:08:00
The Bills did not win the '07 to '11 Giants.
00:08:04
So, I just don't see how the Bills are on.
00:08:08
I get it.
00:08:09
Four Super Bowl appearances, tough to do.
00:08:12
But if you got a category where you're the best losers, then they're at the top.
00:08:16
But they shouldn't be on here with teams who are actually won.
00:08:20
So, I think making four consecutive Super Bowls and going through the teams they had to go through to get there is,
00:08:31
I think that is more impressive.
00:08:33
It might not be more gratifying than winning a singular Super Bowl.
00:08:37
I understand the team you're talking about is one, two Super Bowls in the Pittsburgh Steelers in what, a six-season stretch to '05 to '05, '08, they won two, and then they got to a third.
00:08:47
I, brew, it seemed like, spring went to where mine went.
00:08:51
When I was debating whether or not to include that Steelers team, the team they were up against in my head was Eli's Giants.
00:08:58
Not so much against the Buffalo Bills.
00:09:01
The edge they have on Eli's Giants, honestly, or the edge Eli's Giants has on them is who they beat in the Super Bowl.
00:09:07
And as opposed to beating Matt Hasselbeck and the Seattle Seahawks in what was considered not a great team, and then also beating a great story,
00:09:17
but not a great team at all, the Kurt Warner Cardinals.
00:09:20
Those two things to me as opposed to you are beating the greatest Patriot team any of us had ever seen and maybe have ever seen.
00:09:28
And then that 2011 Patriot team was spectacular and they beat them both times.
00:09:33
That to me gave the edge.
00:09:35
That's why I left.
00:09:36
Those guys, the Giants, the Bills, just took the Bills off.
00:09:39
Gosh, Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen hit her a first things first.
00:09:42
Right, Jennings?
00:09:43
Who could have seen her coming?
00:09:44
Look, if the Chiefs win this Super Bowl, they are absolutely the greatest dynasty.
00:09:51
Five Super Bowl appearances in six years, four Super Bowls, and the first 3P ever in the Super Bowl era, so they would be a top.
00:09:59
But as of this moment, or if they lose the Super Bowl, it's the Steelers.
00:10:04
Like right now, until that game is played, the Steelers, I think, are the best dynasty.
00:10:10
Because they, just like the Chiefs, even if the Chiefs win, they will have won four in six years.
00:10:17
And if the Chiefs lose this game, now you're looking at four Super Bowl wins in six years versus three in six years.
00:10:26
And then you're looking at a four and old record in the Super Bowl versus a three and two record in the Super Bowl.
00:10:32
So I think clearly like this, I get, okay, the Chiefs got to one more.
00:10:38
But I really don't care about getting there.
00:10:40
I care about winning it.
00:10:42
You know, I get it.
00:10:43
We give it a little credit.
00:10:44
Oh, Joe Burrow got to us.
00:10:46
At the end of the day, it's about winning it.
00:10:48
And I definitely think right now, until the Chiefs win this Super Bowl, the Steelers are the greatest.
00:10:55
But the flip side that is the Chiefs as of right now, they'll also, they haven't won it, but they also haven't lost it.
00:11:00
Right.
00:11:00
I'm just, I mean, I'm just saying right like at this moment.
00:11:04
So I can't put them in here.
00:11:06
Here's what I would offer you.
00:11:09
If they lose it, I think there's an argument to drop them down.
00:11:13
But right now, with that game being an unknown, because what the-- Now, how would you put them into that basically?
00:11:19
Because I think, I think that right now-- Just not getting there?
00:11:23
Well, what they've done these six years, because the other thing that the Steelers and Niners haven't come into the Chiefs don't, is the years they didn't win it, they were decisively defeated.
00:11:34
And to me, when we're getting picking knits here, like the Niners, I know you weren't talking about them.
00:11:39
The Niners lost scoring three points in the wild card round in the midst of this.
00:11:45
Then the next year, lost 49 to three in the divisional round.
00:11:49
The Steelers, the two years between their two Super Bowls, both playoff losses were by double digits.
00:11:56
One was in the divisional round.
00:11:59
The Chiefs six-year run, again, with the result being unknown of this game, the only decisive loss came in the Super Bowl.
00:12:07
The only time they didn't make the Super Bowl, it was overtime of the conference championship game.
00:12:12
And let me add one other thing for Kansas City that I think you'll agree with.
00:12:16
Their run during this six-year run, there have been five only five other teams that were perennial, consistent, deep playoff runs.
00:12:27
Baltimore, at least more than one, deep playoff.
00:12:31
Baltimore, Buffalo Cincinnati, Philly and San Francisco.
00:12:35
The Chiefs as of right now are nine and one against the other five contenders of the era.
00:12:43
And so, in nine and one in the playoffs, I should say.
00:12:46
Have you ever had to shop around for car insurance?
00:12:49

00:14:12
I mean, that's all well and good, but at the end of the day, I don't think we care about the Super Bowl.
00:14:18
Did you win the Super Bowl, and if the Steelers have four and six years, and the Chiefs have three and six years, I don't think it's a debate.
00:14:26
There's no debate.
00:14:27
So, and then I also would not have the Niners on the same line as the Steelers, because it took them nine years to accomplish what the Steelers accomplished in six years.
00:14:38
You know, four and nine years is, that's great obviously, but I actually would argue that those Cowboys, now I get it, you probably got the Niners ahead of the Cowboys because they won four.
00:14:48
But that Cowboys run where they run three out of four.
00:14:52
I mean, I could argue moving them ahead of the Niners, because the Niners was just so long.
00:14:59
We again, and then go wild.
00:15:01
The problem for the Cowboys and the first iteration of the Patriots is, there was no like, once you stopped winning Super Bowls, you also,
00:15:11
for the next few years, for the Patriots, for the Cowboys, for the next forever years.
00:15:17
Right.
00:15:18
It's not like, okay, then we made a bunch more deep playoff runs.
00:15:22
It was just a wrap for them.
00:15:24
Go ahead, KW.
00:15:26
I know what you're going to do, because it's the thing you said you weren't going to do.
00:15:29
No, I mean, I would come by, the fact that we're sitting there next to the Cowboys who were good for a little while.
00:15:35
Three years?
00:15:36
Yeah.
00:15:37
I do tend to think of the Patriots as, don't you think of them as one?
00:15:40
I'm going to let Wilds make his point and then I'll rebut it.
00:15:43
So I didn't, I didn't do a bunch of like research, because I feel like it's just parsing numbers.
00:15:48
So it's more of a feel thing.
00:15:50
So I'm going to kind of go off the board, bear with me.
00:15:55
When, when you think about, run into someone who likes a certain team outside of your, of their regional team, it feels like you run into people,
00:16:06
hubs is from upstate New York, loves the Raiders.
00:16:10
What, lots of people love the Cowboys have never even been to Texas.
00:16:14
People love the steel in my buddy, loves the Steelers.
00:16:19
You're from, no, not anywhere near Pittsburgh, loves the Steelers.
00:16:21
Packers fans, packers fans, the same thing.
00:16:23
And it feels like that is or has grown out of those dinosaurs.
00:16:28
Yeah.
00:16:29
I don't run, I mean, there's a lot of Patriots fans, but when Tom Brady left, I don't know, and maybe Patriots fans are little and they'll grow up like,
00:16:40
yeah, I like the Patriots who used to love Tom Brady.
00:16:42
But when Tom Brady left in one, I think that struck at the Patriots, like being a fan of the Patriots outside of New England,
00:16:52
that those other teams still have.
00:16:54
So this all boils down to this.
00:16:56
I almost think to break format, Tom Brady is his own dynasty.
00:17:03
Tom Brady is the through line, and if Tom Brady was his own figurehead, that he would be number one.
00:17:14
So I know it's strange.
00:17:16
Yeah, poor man.
00:17:18
So he breaches that, and by the way, I got another one.
00:17:23
And by the way, the dynasty that you like so much, I beat that dynasty in the FC Championship game, and I won another one that they lost.
00:17:31
That's fair, you're right, it would break format.
00:17:34
Can I make the argument against the Patriots being one contiguous dynasty?
00:17:39
Sure.
00:17:40
Because I think that people have kind of memory hold what a more than half decade period was after they won their first three championships.
00:17:51
It was ugly, early, shocking playoff defeats, two teams that we did not consider that good.
00:18:00
When they were going for their three feet, they got beat by Jake Plummer and the Broncos.
00:18:06
Then next year, they had a 21-3 lead in the FC Championship game and lost.
00:18:13
Then next year, now that was two of Peyton Manningus, the next link quarterback.
00:18:16
The next year is the undefeated season that ended as horrifically as one can end against a team that again, at that moment in time, Eli was not considered some great player because that's what made him the great player and that Giants team,
00:18:30
right, that Giants team was not great.
00:18:32
In 2008, they missed the playoffs.
00:18:35
No, Tom Brady got hurt, that's nothing against Tom, but it is, it's again, if we're saying the Patriot Sciences 0-1-18, this is a big portion of it.
00:18:43
And then in 2009, they get annihilated in the wildcard round, blown out by a Joe Flacco Ravens team.
00:18:51
And then in 2010, they lose their first playoff game at home to Mark Sanchez.
00:18:56
So that is 0-5-20-11, a great team makes Superl and they start their run of the conference championship.
00:19:02
Patriot Conference Championship games.
00:19:04
I do not think it is legitimate to call a team that had a six-year run of what's going on here, which in the middle of it also included the greatest team ever that had the biggest Super Bowl upset of all time.
00:19:20
All of that is one dynasty.
00:19:23
I don't look at it that way.
00:19:24
I look at it as that early defense young clutch Tom Brady, then a weird half-decade, and then Brady, peak of his powers, Grunk, Hernandez,
00:19:35
all of it, the run through the 2010.
00:19:37
I mean, look, that's legitimate.
00:19:39
I think of him as one dynasty because the two main guys Brady and Belichet were there.
00:19:43
I think of the Spurs as one dynasty.
00:19:46
That whole 20 years under Duncan, even though they went with six, seven years.
00:19:50
But within the Spurs Dynasty, there was another dynasty.
00:19:55
So the Spurs, because they started in '99 and ended in '14 and in the middle of it, the Lakers?
00:20:01
I think of that as a dynasty.
00:20:03
Just like I think of the Burr Celtics and the Showtime Lakers as like dinosaurs.
00:20:09
I don't think I would trade my 20 years of Patriots dynasty for the Chiefs Minid dynasty right now.
00:20:16
Well, I mean, first of all, you can't call them Minid dynasty.
00:20:21
I knew that was going to destroy it.
00:20:23
For the record, if the Chiefs, they have right now as a Minid dynasty, then there's only one dynasty ever into the Patriots.
00:20:28
And if that's your opinion, that's your opinion.
00:20:31
But you don't call the Cowboys of the 90s of Minid dynasty.
00:20:35
So what does it take to be a grown-up dynasty?
00:20:39
Oh man, we've been rolling for almost 20 years.
00:20:42
You got a nice little dynasty?
00:20:43
Okay, so that's fine.
00:20:44
It's a medium-sized soda.
00:20:46
It's nice.
00:20:47
I'll tell you this.
00:20:48
If the Chiefs dynasty ends up having a decade-long drought of winning Super bowls, I'll be crushed.
00:20:55
If we're in the Super bowls, you're going to go to Super bowls.
00:20:58
If the Chiefs dynasty has 10 years where the apex of it for a full decade is we lose a couple Super bowls to mediocre teams.
00:21:07
If they're a mediocre, if you're in the Super Bowl, you're not a mediocre team.
00:21:11
A mediocre, regular season teams.
00:21:13
Listen, hey.
00:21:14
There's so mediocre.
00:21:15
Here's how great the Patriots dynasty is.
00:21:17
The teams we lost to get a shot on the get up, make it.
00:21:21
That's how good we are.
00:21:23
It's like good units like Buster Douglas, congratulations.
00:21:26
Buster Douglas, what are they?
00:21:28
Because you beat dynasty.
00:21:29
That's the only reason they're on that.
00:21:31
Can I quote Tony soprano?
00:21:33
And there's no lower-former conversation than we remember when.
00:21:36
You guys used to be really good.
00:21:37
You used to be really good.
00:21:39
I understand it's sad.
00:21:41
Why is the dynasty have these gaps in it for you?
00:21:45
Why does it start there?
00:21:46
Oh, because you played the Patriots in law.
00:21:49
There's no gap.
00:21:50
What are you talking about?
00:21:53
Everyone started it earlier.
00:21:54
Because they didn't win the Super Bowl.
00:21:56
Why not?
00:21:56
Because the Patriots did.
00:21:57
That's right.
00:21:58
Yes.
00:21:59
They played each other and we won.
00:22:01
Yeah, there's 28 Patriots were better.
00:22:04
But you decide to start it there.
00:22:08
Every single dynasty starts here.
00:22:12
It's when you win.
00:22:13
When you win.
00:22:14
That's for everybody.
00:22:15
Yes.
00:22:18
Well, then I guess the Niners should include the 94 season.
00:22:21
All right.
00:22:22
So is the Niners down to see 81 to 94?
00:22:24
Well, if you want to understand that you have to start it when you start winning.
00:22:28
But the fact that you're in the AFC Championship game and lose to the Patriots.
00:22:32
And they're just like, well, let's throw that out, but keep the Patriots wins because this is where they are.
00:22:36
This last piece doesn't make sense, but it's fun.
00:22:39
We can move on.
00:22:40
Like the every single team there, it starts when you win your first Super Bowl.
00:22:44
That's when the, like, the, I mean, I, that's not controversial.
00:22:48
Yes, but when.
00:22:49
Yes, they could have won more Super Bowls.
00:22:51
They didn't.
00:22:51
They could have started moams as rookie or maybe they would have won that one.
00:22:54
They didn't.
00:22:55
I don't know what to tell you.
00:22:56
Two-year rooms.
00:22:57
I'm right on this one.
00:22:59
