Description

So many of us go through traumatic experiences as children and then we build up layers of protection that are intended to protect us from the outer world. We put up facades of who we think we need to be or who we feel like will be the persona that will keep us most protected. This is a subconscious reaction that is built in early childhood, and works at first to protect us. But in adult life that protection also prevents us from experiencing life to its fullest capacity, feeling deep emotions, and building deeper connections with other people. What once saved us eventually stunts us. We try and use tools which worked then to bring back feelings of familiarity expecting it to work now, but in order to move forward in our lives and stop letting the callouses of our past keep us from healing, we need to do what it takes to peel back those layers of protection, and help heal the broken child within.
